  • From Our Principal, Mrs. ArmandoSTARz

We put the STAR in STAR Testing

In January I presented information about our STAR scores for the September and November testing windows to the Advisory Board and at a PAC Coffee. In these two meetings I shared our statistics regarding St. Charles School scores against national averages and Archdiocese of San Francisco averages.

We rank among the best and we have a lot to be proud of in terms of curriculum, staff and students. As I take a quick look at results from this week’s testing, I am equally impressed and grateful to the hard work and dedication of the staff and students. I will give another detailed report of results in the March Advisory Board Meeting. Stay tuned for more good news!

Why St. Charles School?

  • Wellness image

    Attention to Student Wellness

Cooperation and leadership among school professionals and parents enables all adults in the community to support student wellness.  Several programs and roundtable events have enlightened the community about anxiety in youth.

    Enriched Science Curriculum

St. Charles School has added HMH Science Dimensions, a research-tested program developed by science educators and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) advisors to help teachers and students approach science learning through integrated, exploratory activities and rich NGSS content.

Students learn to think like scientists through exploration, analysis, application, and explanation. Students collect evidence, reflect in writing, discuss their findings, and explain their results—advancing their literacy skills and their understanding of critical science concepts.

Where will instruction take students? With HMH Field Trips powered by Google® Expeditions, the answer is virtually anywhere with 360-degree virtual field trips that allow students to travel through history, explore the world, and witness scientific wonders, creating a "window-on-the-world" interactive classroom!

    Concept-Centered Social Studies Program

California Studies Weekly, Grades K-5  St. Charles School has adopted a research-based social studies program for grades K-5: California Studies Weekly. The program provides a new booklet every week and students will engage in hands-on curriculum, where they can highlight, take notes, and complete learning strategies right on the publication. Students also have access to the online learning platform and can delve deeper into history through images and videos. Integrated with close reading strategies and language arts standards, the weekly content presents rich information and enables students to apply reading, interactive note-taking, and writing skills into social studies.

TCI History Alive, Grades 6-8  Middle School students use History Alive!, with content and activities that are highly interactive and aligned with California History-Social Studies Standards. Students grasp important details and gain understanding of the "big ideas" across geography and over time. Each unit begins with a Big Idea and an Essential Question and incorporates graphic notetaking, groupwork, and student discovery learning.

  • Enhanced Mathematics Program

Online Tools to Support, Enhance, and Extend Mathematics Achievement

Students in grades K-4 experience math in multisensory ways, increasing engagement and enjoyment in learning math concepts. Using the online TouchMath program, students receive immediate feedback with audio and visual reinforcement that supports all types of learners. Designed specifically to produce results among students of all learning styles, the program ensures that students see, say, hear, touch, and learn using interactive classroom aids, manipulatives, and simulations. This program supplements the St. Charles classroom curriculum and further differentiates instruction to reinforce critical math concepts.

Using St. Charles digital tools, students in grades 5-8 have new opportunities to apply and expand their mathematics learning through the online ALEKS program, which differentiates instruction and provides an optimal path to success for each student. This program supports teachers with ongoing assessment of student progress and personalized instruction that fosters student learning for mastery and retention. Students benefit from immediate feedback and step-by-step explanations to ensure full understanding and application of the Common Core Standards.
